The D7 Visa is a residence visa for pensioners or income earners
who wish to live in Portugal, is provided for in the Foreigners Law and allows its holder to enter Portuguese territory to apply for a residence permit.
The D7 Visa allows the holder to obtain a residence permit in Portugal for
period of 1 year, which may then be renewed for successive periods of 2 years and, after 5 years, the applicant may acquire permanent residence authorisation or Portuguese nationality (independent/autonomous process). The minimum time of stay in Portugal is 183 consecutive days.

Legal requirements to obtain a visa:

There are some requirements to be fulfilled, the main one is the proof that the applicant has the minimum income foreseen by law that enables his/her residence in Portugal for one year (12 months, as long as the previous deposit in a Portuguese bank is proven (we can present to the Bank the affiliation), being necessary to obtain the NIF (fiscal identification number).                                                                               Procedure:

The procedure is composed of two stages: the first with the Consulate of Portugal in São Paulo (VFS) and the second with the Foreigners and Borders Service - SEF, in Portugal.

Phase 1 - Brazil: The documents are sent to VFS Global (the Consulate's new visa centre) so that, after analysis and approval, an interview in person at the Portuguese Consulate in São Paulo may be scheduled.
The process at the Consulate/VFS takes approximately 120 days, with the possibility of varying more or less.
After the approval of the request, there will be the permission in the passport for the regular entry in Portugal.
The period for travelling to Portugal after the visa has been granted is 4 (four) months.

Phase 2 - Portugal: After the entry of the applicant in the country, a personal interview will be scheduled before the SEF and, after the analysis of the body, the residence permit will be granted and the respective card will be made for the applicant.

                                                                                 Deadlines

The person needs to stay in Portugal for as long as the visa is granted. If he/she wishes to leave the country he/she can do so twice, within the period of 180 days, otherwise, he/she must justify to SEF and, in case of non-compliance with this legal provision, if the absence occurs for more than 06 consecutive months or 08 intercalated months, the title can be cancelled.
The residence permit in Portugal at SEF will have a duration of 2 years and can be renewed up to 3 times.
